Connect

Connect

Connect explores the notion of connectivity inside networks based on proximity. Each point on the network tries to keep its distances with its neighbors and any time a node moves the system highlights the closest neighbor. The created lines show the perturbations of the network, linking the moving nodes in sometimes surprisingly organized patterns.

Clicking on the canvas changes the rendering of the links from instant to permanent, allowing the formation of patterns in the network. You can get the application here: Windows, Mac/Linux (also Windows if you know what a .jar is). You will need a recent version of Java to launch the application.

Connect is able to simulate city-like networks of streets with a very simple rule that might reflect the underlying concepts that govern urban planning.
