The artist and the craftswoman

Navette explores what happens when you take a Jacquard machine and fuse it with generative algorithms that can work at the point level. The Jacquard and its limited palette (there is a physical limit to the number of threads you can load in the machine) becomes a constraint that the algorithm disrupts by playing around dithering techniques.

A mix between physical and digital

Each tapestry is the result of a generative algorithm that outputs the necessary information to feed to the loom, allowing to create a series of tapestries without any creative choice left. Feed the corresponding colors in the machine, and send the instructions.

The tapestries measure 170 cm x 250 cm, and are made of seven to ten different colors (including silver and gold Lumex threads).
